The report was unveiled during a special meeting of the local steering committee on biodiversity. Walvis Bay is one of ten world cities that have been chosen to participate in the international initiative aimed at gauging and creating awareness of the biodiversity of its unique ecosystem and environment. Officially launching the report the Mayor of Walvis Bay, Uilika Nambahu, said the report is a "milestone of strategic planning on the way to Vision 2030, so that the achievement of its targets as well as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGS) in Namibia works with, and not against, our natural resource base ..."

Keep vacant Erven tidy 23 September 2008
The Municipality of Walvis Bay has noted with concern that dumping of household refuse and other material on vacant erven has increased alarmingly over the years. The trend has been observed throughout Walvis Bay. In the interests of public hygiene and health standards, the Municipality has taken on the burden of cleaning these erven. However, the Municipal Council regards this as an unfair practice because the ratepayers of Walvis Bay have been footing the bill for such operations.
The responsibility of keeping property tidy and clean, whether such property is developed or not, rests entirely with property owners. In future, therefore, all cleaning related to vacant erven...

Trees are proof of life 15 September 2008
"In mounting campaigns of this nature we are not only making sure that our environment is clean and free from pollution and littering, but we are also increasing the scenic beauty of our city, making it attractive to tourists and through their impressions create a good reputation around the world of being a very clean city." This was said by the mayor of Walvis Bay, Uilika Nambahu during the road clean-up campaign and Arbour Week celebrations on Saturday, 13 September 2008. The clean-up campaign was organised jointly by the Municipality of Walvis Bay and Metcalfe Legal Practitioners. New Junior Council Elected for 2009 10 September 2008
Leoné Pieters was elected as Junior Mayor for Walvis Bay during a special ceremony on Wednesday. Pieters thanked her fellow councillors for the opportunity and reminded them that hard work, dedication and faith is required to meet the challenges they face as youth leaders and representatives.
Acting as presiding officer, the Personal Assistant to the Mayor of Walvis Bay, Leevylee Abrahams explained that the concept of junior council was not created merely to emulate the actual council. "Junior councillors are exposed to real-life situations, conflict resolutions as well as planning, implementing and running projects. In this way they are able to give back to the community and change the lives of many for the better. The Junior Council is composed of learners from different cultural, economic and religious backgrounds. This helps to foster new friendships and a better understanding of the social dynamics of our community. It also enables the Junior Council to initiate projects that will be so much more effective in the target communities," he said.

I must admit, Walvis Bay turned out to be an even better destination than the website advertises. We had a smashing time, met some wonderful people and were stunned by the stark and breathtaking landscapes.
Thank you Walvis Bay!

Stefan August 07, 2008 at 09:59:22am 196.35. none http://noneI'm glad to see the municipality giving out bursaries. Its highly commendable. Having gone through the same bursary programme, I must say its really a great opportunity. I obtained my BSc(Hon) degree through this programme in 2005. I therefore thank not only the municipality, but also the rate payers of Walvisbay for having contributed to my success.
