Saara Mutondoka, addressed critical community concerns around public safety and municipal service delivery.

The meeting began with a solemn moment of silence in honour of the three young children who were tragically murdered in Okahandja. Cllr. Mutondoka condemned the violence and urged society to do more to protect its most vulnerable. “It is devastating that those meant to protect our children have instead caused them harm. This tragedy is a painful reminder that we must unite in creating a safer, more nurturing environment for our children,” she said.

Turning to the state of sanitation in Walvis Bay, the Deputy Mayor acknowledged existing challenges, particularly in waste collection. “Refuse removal is not at the standard it should be,” she said, noting that mechanical issues with refuse trucks had caused setbacks. In response, the Municipality urgently engaged an external service provider and has since revised its refuse collection schedule to better manage the situation. The deputy also announced that the delivery of five new compactor trucks is expected by the end of July 2025.

Mutondoka highlighted the efforts of the recently revived Team-Up-2-Clean-Up campaign, which conducts weekly clean-ups of dumping hot spot. Furthermore, Mutondoka thanked residents and businesses who continue to volunteer in clean-up efforts. “Your commitment does not go unnoticed,” she said, adding that the Municipality is committed to supporting these initiatives with resources and equipment. Residents were urged to take pride in their environment and refrain from littering, which undermines public health and cleanliness efforts. “Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier Walvis Bay,” she said.

Cllr.
