WALVIS BAY HOSTS TRUCKERS ROAD SAFETY INFORMATION DAY<\/p>\n

On 21 May 2025, Walvis Bay hosted the Truckers Road Safety Information Day a joint initiative that brought together key stakeholders in the transport and logistics sector to reinforce a shared commitment to road safety.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Held at the temporary Truck-Port on the C14\/M36, the event targeted truck drivers who traverse Namibia\u2019s critical B2 transport corridor, with the aim of enhancing awareness, promoting professionalism, and saving lives on our roads.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Delivering a keynote speech on behalf of the Governor of the Erongo Region, Hon. Neville Andre, Mayor of Walvis Bay, His Worship Trevino Forbes emphasised key safety practices such as maintaining following distances, regular vehicle maintenance, speed regulation, and strict avoidance of substance abuse.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoad safety is everyone\u2019s business, and it begins long before an accident occurs. Let\u2019s commit to prevention, professionalism, and most importantly saving lives,\u201d said Forbes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Horst Heimst\u00e4dt, CEO of the Namibia Road Safety Forum, stressed the event’s role in promoting public education and recognising truck drivers as the backbone of Namibia\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Practical tips were shared by speakers like Nashivela Shilongo, Chief Road Safety Officer at the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), who urged drivers to observe the recommended speed limit of 80 km\/h and conduct regular tyre checks. Meanwhile, Eliphas Rukambe of the MVA Fund encouraged drivers to call 9682 in the event of a road accident.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The event was supported by a coalition of organisations including the Namibia Road Safety Forum, National Road Safety Council, MVA Fund, Roads Authority, NAMPOL Traffic, and the Walvis Bay Corridor Group, among others.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Following the information day, safety checkpoints are being conducted to ensure vehicle roadworthiness and driver compliance across the B2 corridor.<\/p>\n

With Walvis Bay continuing to play a central role in Namibia\u2019s logistics and economic landscape, the municipality’s active participation reaffirms its willingness in fostering a safer, more responsible transport sector.<\/p>\n
