The meeting provided an important platform for community members to engage directly with Council and municipal officials, while also receiving updates on progress made regarding matters previously raised by residents.

Among some of the positive feedback shared during the meeting, several developments stood out. Residents were informed about the introduction of solar streetlights in the area, with the bidding process for the project set to close this week. This marks an important step toward improving lighting and safety in the community. Residents also received updates on sanitation improvements. The Municipality confirmed that, as part of broader plans to enhance sanitation services in the area, the existing septic tank will be replaced in the coming months.
In addition, residents were informed that individual refuse bins have already been issued to households, while additional compactor trucks are expected to arrive in the coming months to strengthen refuse collection services and better serve Walvis Bay and the growing community of Farm 37.

Residents were further informed that the Built-Together Programme will soon be rolled out in Portion 10 of Farm 37, where many relocated residents currently reside. The initiative aims to support residents in developing their homes.

Plans were also shared regarding the construction of a primary school in the area, confirming that land has already been identified for the development. The project will be pursued by the Ministry of Higher Education, Training and Innovation.

Council representatives further noted that Farm 37 remains a key development priority for Council, however the continued development of the area requires collaboration with central government through various ministries. Several engagements with national government institutions are already underway, with positive outcomes reported from some of these discussions.
This platform also gave residents an opportunity to raise concerns and ask questions. Matters raised by community members included:
• Subleasing of allocated residential stands
• Water connection points
• Access to electricity
• Transport-related challenges
• Access to health care services

Addressing the matter of subleasing, Deputy Mayor Miina Hangula and other councillors strongly condemned the subleasing of allocated stands, noting that such practices undermine fair access to land. Residents were urged to report any incidents of subleasing to the Municipality so that appropriate action can be taken.
The meetings also serve as budget consultation sessions for the 2026/2027 financial year.
Residents are encouraged to attend the remaining meetings scheduled for
Narraville, town area and Kuisebmond.

Residents are encouraged to participate in these engagements as part of strengthening community participation and transparent local governance.

The Municipality of Walvis Bay successfully hosted the first meeting in its 2026 Public Meeting Series on Monday, at Farm 37, with strong attendance from residents.
