This strategic investment responds to the town\u2019s continued population growth, which has placed increased demand on waste management services. The expansion of the refuse collection fleet is aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and ensuring consistent, reliable service delivery to both residential and business areas. In addition to the newly acquired vehicles, the municipality continues to utilise two operational trucks from its older fleet, bringing the total number of active compactor trucks to nine servicing Walvis Bay communities.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Walvis Bay Mayor, Cllr Johannes Shimbilinga welcomed the arrival of the new refuse collection trucks, saying he is relieved following delays previously experienced in refuse collection services. He further urged operators to take proper care of the new fleet to ensure the town remains clean. \u201cI urge the operators to take care of these new trucks, so we keep our town clean. While we acknowledge and welcoming the new fleet, we urge all residents to do their part in keeping Walvis Bay clean, \u201d he noted. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Mayor appealed to residents to support the Municipality\u2019s waste management efforts by refraining from illegal dumping and making use of designated refuse disposal areas and bins.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Mr David Uushona, Manager for Solid Waste and Environmental Management, highlighted the importance of the fleet expansion, saying: \u201cThis will honestly help us meeting our schedules and targets on removals of domestic waste and serving businesses.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

To ensure the longevity and reliability of the fleet, the municipality has also introduced a structured maintenance plan based on vehicle mileage to minimise service disruptions.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Mr Hans Kadhila, Fleet and Workshop Supervisor, welcomed the addition of the new 21-cubic-capacity compactors, \u201cThe aim is just to keep Walvis Bay clean to be the cleanest town it can be,\u201d he remarked.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The municipality plans to continue expanding the fleet in the coming years, as a total of 14 compactor trucks are required to adequately meet the town\u2019s growing needs while allowing for regular maintenance rotations.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The refuse collection team also received training in the operation of the new vehicles and conducted demonstrations following their delivery.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
