At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 23 February 2021, Council announced that an interest amnesty
period will be applicable from 23 February 2021 to
31 December 2021.
The interest amnesty is aimed at assisting customers
who are struggling to settle their municipal bills for
various reasons. Accounts that are in arrears normally
attract interest and other penalties which result in the
debts becoming even more unmanageable.
The interest amnesty exercise is NOT aimed at writing
off the capital debts of customers but merely aimed at
having the interest accrued to such capital pardoned
whenever the capital debt is settled in full within the
amnesty period. Customers should therefore confirm
which portion of their debt is capital and how much is
interest.
