THE NEED FOR ALL CUSTOMERS TO PRACTISE SOCIAL DISTANCING

In the wake of the threat posed by COVID-19, the safety of all residents is of utmost importance. Further to this, I wish to draw your attention to the Proclamation by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr Hage G. Geingob, which was published in the Government Gazette on 28 March 2020.

We have observed that the majority of the essential service businesses in Walvis Bay are adhering to the safety measures necessary to combat COVID-19, such as controlling the number of customers entering the shops and the sanitizing of customers’ hands. We wish to applaud the local businesses for their efforts in this regard. However, we have also noticed that a great deal of customers are disregarding the required social distancing protocol (i.e. maintaining a distance of at least one metre apart) outside of these establishments.

It is against this background that Council urges all such businesses to assist by implementing measures to enforce social distancing at their premises, inside and outside. Customers should also be reminded that it is mandatory that only one member of every family is allowed to do the necessary purchasing of essential goods at a given time (at one particular place).

Your kind consideration and cooperation in controlling and combating the spread of COVID-19 will be highly appreciated.

For any inquiries, please contact the Health Section of the Municipality of Walvis Bay on 0811241009.
