Walvis Bay Multi-Purpose Centre reaches another milestone

Posted: 7 May 2011

The Walvis Bay Multi-Purpose Centre has recently launched a catering and cooking project in its drive for self sustainability. The project, aimed at offering culinary lessons to the community, has been boosted with donations of food, cutlery and catering and kitchen equipment worth approximately N$70 000.00. Companies that donated the items are the Municipality of Walvis Bay, NANASO, Tunacor Fishing Company, Talanam Processors, Herco Marketing, Fruit & Veg City and Blue Marine Interfish.

In his brief remarks, Regional Councillor Hafeni Ndemula (MP), thanked applauded all donors and participants who made the event become a reality. He also said that the catering project would contribute greatly towards better living conditions for the community whom he urged to make use of the kitchen facility. David Thomas, a chef at the French restaurant Lyon des Sables, will share his impressive skills with the centre. He will be available three times a week to offer theoretical and practical training in cooking. The Walvis Bay Multi Purpose Centre also runs number of other projects such as Ben Bicycle, Collect-a-Can and computer training courses. According to Diamantina Somses of the centre, the catering training will not only provide capacity building but will greatly enable people to earn an extra income through new employment opportunities.
