The Minister of Health and Social Services, Hon Dr Kalumbi Shangula visited Walvis Bay for the commissioning of laundry machines at Walvis Bay State Hospital. The commissioning was attended by the Governor of Erongo Region, Hon. Neville André, Walvis Bay Mayor, His Worship Trevino Forbes, CEO of the Emeritus Fishing Company, Mr. Jose Bastos, Regional Director of Health in Erongo Region, Ms Anna Jonas and the Governor of Kunene Region, Hon. Marius Sheya. The machines, which included three high spin machines, three industrial tumble dryers, two laundry roller ironing machines and four flat ironing tables were under N$ 1.1 million and donated by the Emeritus Fishing Company. In the past, laundry was sent to Windhoek as the machines at the hospital were outdated and impossible to repair. This commissioning was a clear demonstration that progress can be made with teamwork, hard work, dedication and the generosity of the private sector. The commissioning of these laundry machines could also not have come at a better time as the whole world, Walvis Bay included, is battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
