N$ 250 MILLION PLEDGED TO WALVIS BAY ROADS

The Municipality of Walvis Bay, The Roads Authority (RA) and The Road Fund Administration (RFA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) earlier today, with the view to maintain and upgrade municipal roads in Walvis Bay. RFA is committing N$ 248 million as part of the tripartite, over a period of five years.

According the Chief Executive Officer of the RFA, Ali Ipinge the N$ 248 million which is derived from Road User Charges and will be used for the rehabilitation and widening of municipal roads leading to the Port of Walvis Bay. “Through the joint MoA, we are signing today, the RFA, RA and the Municipality of Walvis Bay, will ensue added support to the national vision of promoting the national road corridors and logistical hub ideals as enshrined in Namiba’s Vision 2030 ,” he noted.

The Mayor of Walvis Bay, Trevino Forbes, said the MoA represents a significant step forward in ensuring that roads are upgraded and that safety and accessibility to the town are enhanced. “Following accelerating complaints by road users due to the condition of the roads, our Acting CEO arranged a meeting with RFA in January and the outcome was positive and led to the signing of this agreement,” the mayor said. Forbes noted that he has faith in the expertise that and technical support the Municipality will receive from the RA and RFA in bringing this development to life.
