Posted: 25 Apr 2023

Members of the Kambina Boxing Promotions Club, including Harry Simon Jnr, paid a courtesy visit on the Office of the Mayor yesterday. The boxing promoters used the platform to formally inform the Mayor about Harry Simon Jnr’s upcoming professional fight, which will be his first professional fight in Walvis Bay. The fight, which is referred to as HOMECOMING VOL 1, is scheduled for 13 May 2023 at the Indoor Sport Complex. Simon Jnr will face an opponent who is yet to be named in a 10 round international bout, in the welterweight division.
Harry Simon Jnr is a professional boxer who was born and raised in Walvis Bay, and is the son of well known former Namibian professional boxer Harry Simon. Simon Jnr boasts a record of 18 fights, 0 losses and 12 knock-outs while his father is an undefeated two-time WBO World Champion.
The Kambina Boxing Promotions Club, under which Simon Jnr trains, initially started its operations in 2014 as the Walvis Bay Boxing club. Leonardt Simson who is the Team Manager emphasised the need for sponsors to come on board in order to make the upcoming fight a success. “We are required to raise about N$ 80 000 – N$100 000 in order to make this event a success and thus we would like to appeal to corporate companies, especially those in Walvis Bay to please support this event in the form of sponsorships,” He said.
The team manager said ticket prices and the opponent who is not Namibian, will be announced next week at a press conference.
Mayor Forbes pledged his full support towards the event, while urging corporates and boxing enthusiast alike, to render financial support towards the event and the boxer.
“He is our own, let’s render our support to our sportsmen, we can do so as corporates or as individuals by purchasing tickets,’’ he emphasised.
Sponsors who wish to sponsor the event can phone these numbers: 081 177 82071 OR 0812439117.
