The Municipality of Walvis Bay values and supports informal trading as an essential part of our local economy and a key contributor to livelihoods. While we recognise the importance of this sector, we would like to foster an environment where vendors comply with existing regulations to help ensure an orderly trading environment.
There has been a noticeable increase in unregistered street vendors operating not only without the required Trading Permits and Registration & Fitness Certificates, but also at sites not designated for such purposes. This creates challenges in maintaining public order, cleanliness, and safety.
Officials from the Municipality of Walvis Bay’s Economic Development and Health Divisions recently took the streets to educate vendors and to enforce the regulations outlined in a public notice shared recently. The vendors received the information positively, with some noting that they were previously unaware of the regulations and have agreed to comply going forward.
Vendors are strongly encouraged to register with the Municipality and to seek advice on designated trading sites by contacting the numbers provided below.
The Municipality remains committed to working with traders to formalise operations and maintain standards that benefit both vendors and the broader community.
