The Visit Malaysia Year 2026 Promotional Event was recently launched, at Dunes Mall, bringing together culture, tourism, and international friendship in a vibrant celebration. The event was aimed at promoting tourism between Malaysia and Namibia, strengthening bilateral relations while showcasing the diverse travel experiences Malaysia has to offer.
In his welcoming remarks, His Worship, Mayor Cllr. Johannes Shimbilinga, expressed gratitude to the High Commission of Malaysia for selecting Walvis Bay as the host town. He highlighted that the event is more than a showcase of destinations; it is a celebration of the strong people-to-people ties between Namibia and Malaysia, built on mutual respect and shared curiosity.
The mayor emphasised the importance of tourism and cultural exchange in creating opportunities, supporting local businesses, and strengthening community connections. He encouraged residents and visitors to engage with the exhibits, enjoy the performances, and embrace the opportunity to learn and connect.
Representing Malaysia, High Commissioner Mr. Khornelisman Jasri described Walvis Bay as a dynamic city with strong tourism potential, noting its coastline and global connectivity as key assets. He highlighted the shared similarities between Namibia and Malaysia, both rich in natural beauty, cultural diversity, and ease of communication through English.
He extended an open invitation to Namibians to explore Malaysia under the theme:
“Malaysia – A Culturally Rich and Sustainable Destination.”
From the heights of Mount Kinabalu to the beaches of Langkawi, the historic streets of Melaka and Penang, and the vibrant city life of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia offers “several holidays in one country.” Visitors can also enjoy visa-free travel for up to 30 days, making it an accessible and attractive destination.
Attendees at the event had the opportunity to experience Malaysia’s rich culture, vibrant traditions, and exciting travel offerings through a variety of interactive activities. These included discounted travel packages, lucky draws and giveaways, fun quizzes and games, cultural performances, a children’s colouring contest, and a themed photo booth, creating an engaging and family-friendly atmosphere.
The event underscored that tourism is not only about travel, but also about connection. As Mr. Jasri noted, when people travel, they don’t just bring back photos; they bring back understanding.
The mayor extends sincere appreciation to the High Commission of Malaysia, event organisers, partners, and volunteers for making this event a success.
