The Municipality of Walvis Bay is investing in expanded emergency response infrastructure with the construction of a new satellite fire station in Kuisebmond Extension 6, bringing fire and emergency services closer to residents in the surrounding communities, including Tutateni and Otweya.
The site was officially handed over to Kashikudi Investment CC earlier this week, marking the commencement of construction of the facility. The project has been awarded at a contract value of over N$1.2 million with a construction period of three months and an anticipated completion date of 23 December 2026.
The satellite fire station is being established as part of the Municipality’s efforts to expand and decentralise emergency response infrastructure, ensuring that essential services are positioned closer to communities as Walvis Bay continues to grow.
Speaking at the site handover, Mayor Cllr Johannes Shimbilinga called on the contractor to adhere to the agreed project timelines and ensure that the facility is completed within the stipulated period.
“We are investing in infrastructure that directly supports the safety and well-being of our residents. I therefore call on the contractor to adhere to the agreed timelines and ensure that this project is completed as scheduled. Our residents are looking forward to seeing this facility become operational and bring emergency services closer to their communities,” said Mayor Shimbilinga.
The Mayor further indicated that the Municipality intends to extend similar emergency response infrastructure to other parts of the city, with Narraville and Farm 37 identified for future satellite fire station development.
“This is not where our efforts end. Council intends to extend the same service to Narraville and Farm 37 in the near future. As our city expands, we must also expand the infrastructure and services that support the safety and well-being of our communities,” he said.
The construction of the Kuisebmond satellite fire station represents an investment not only in physical infrastructure, but also in the Municipality’s emergency response capacity, with further satellite facilities planned to extend these services to more communities across Walvis Bay.
